Apple Rebuilds Siri with Google Gemini at WWDC 2026

Apple's WWDC 2026 keynote delivered what many considered unlikely: Siri, completely rebuilt from the ground up, now powered by Google's Gemini models. The new Siri AI is available in developer beta across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 (named Golden Gate), and visionOS 27.

The rebuilt assistant handles multi-turn conversations, generates images, writes code, and processes context across apps — capabilities that finally bring it to parity with ChatGPT and Google's native Gemini experience. Early hands-on reports suggest Siri AI feels familiar yet distinctly Apple in its presentation and privacy controls.

Perhaps the most strategic move is Apple's new model picker. iOS 27 lets users select between Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and OpenAI ChatGPT as their default assistant engine. This positions Apple not as a model builder but as an orchestrator — a meta-layer where users choose their preferred AI brain.

Tim Cook's final WWDC as Apple CEO also included hundreds of software improvements: a redesigned Liquid Glass UI language, improved search across macOS, enhanced parental controls, and new Apple Intelligence features woven throughout Photos, Mail, and Messages. watchOS 27 dropped support for some recent Apple Watch models, signaling a hardware refresh cycle.

For developers, the bigger story is App Intents replacing SiriKit, and Xcode 27 gaining on-device AI for code completion and debugging. Apple is clearly pushing AI into the development workflow itself, not just consumer features.
