MENA Startup Ecosystem Surges: du Ventures $50M Fund, CargoX $250M, PIF-TMG Partnership
The post-Eid week brought a wave of dealmaking across MENA's startup and technology ecosystem. UAE-based telecom operator du launched du Ventures, a $50 million corporate venture capital fund in partnership with Shorooq Investments, targeting fintech, AI, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise software startups across the region.
UAE-based autonomous logistics startup CargoX raised $250 million from an investor group led by BlueFive Capital. The company operates driverless delivery vehicles across last-mile, middle-mile, and long-haul logistics routes, led by former Talabat CEO Tomaso Rodriguez. MENA-focused impact VC firm Anara Impact Capital announced the first close of its debut fund at $48 million, targeting seed and Series A startups in learning, wellbeing, and climate sectors.
Foras.AI invested in Egypt-based Efham.ai, an AI education platform building the first Arabic community dedicated to learning AI in Arabic, with plans to launch over 100 AI training lessons by Q3 2026. Uber agreed to acquire a 12.5% stake in Careem Technologies from e& for $100 million.
On the sovereign investment front, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Egypt's Talaat Moustafa Group Saudi (TMG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore mixed-use real estate projects across the Kingdom, leveraging TMG's 50 years of experience and PIF's investment capabilities. MENA startup funding has hit $15.4 billion over the past five years, with corporate investors backing 12% of deals.
The breadth of this week's MENA deals — from du's $50M fund to CargoX's $250M raise to the PIF-TMG partnership — shows the region's investment ecosystem maturing across stages and sectors. Arabic-first AI education (Efham.ai) is a particularly significant signal for the developer pipeline.
