Egypt Targets $6 Billion in Outsourcing Exports as Digital Infrastructure Accelerates
Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindi, announced that the government is targeting outsourcing services exports of $6 billion in 2026, up from approximately $5.2 billion in 2025. The announcement was made during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to review the ministry's performance and ongoing projects.
The ministry is preparing investment plans for technology zones aimed at attracting more outsourcing companies. A cooperation protocol has been signed with the Ministry of Investment to incorporate electronics design and semiconductor services into the country's export development program.
Hindi outlined four key investment areas: outsourcing services, localization of mobile phone manufacturing, digital infrastructure development, and the data center industry. Notably, 15 mobile phone brands are currently manufacturing devices in Egypt, with annual production targeted to exceed 15 million units.
On the digital infrastructure front, the ministry aims to add approximately 3,000 new telecom towers this year and more than 9,000 towers over the next three years. New frequency bands totaling 410 megahertz were allocated to Egypt's four telecom operators in February, supported by investments worth $3.5 billion. Investments exceeding $6 billion have been directed towards fixed and mobile internet services since 2019.
The ministry is also formulating a national strategy for regulating data center establishment, seeking to capitalize on Egypt's strategic geographic location by developing an investment map and offering incentives to attract large-scale data center investments focused on cloud computing and AI services.
Egypt also hosted the Presidential African Youth in AI and Robotics Competition 2026 and participated in the Inclusive Africa Conference, signaling its ambition to position itself as a continental AI hub.
Egypt's $6B outsourcing target and national data center strategy signal a serious push to become a regional digital infrastructure hub.
