Anthropic Acquires Stainless: The $300M Move to Control AI SDK Infrastructure
Anthropic acquired New York-based developer tools startup Stainless on May 18 in a deal reported above $300 million, gaining exclusive control over SDK infrastructure previously used by rival AI labs including OpenAI, Google, Meta, Cloudflare, and hundreds of other platforms.
Founded in 2022 by former Stripe engineer Alex Rattray, Stainless automated the creation and maintenance of software development kits (SDKs), CLIs, and MCP servers. The startup powered the generation of every official Anthropic SDK since the earliest days of the Claude API.
