Tech Africa News · Story 5 of 6

French automotive technology company Valeo has officially launched its AI Development Center in Cairo, marking a significant milestone in both Valeo's 20-year presence in Egypt and the country's growing role as a technology hub in the MENA region.

The new center, located in Smart Village, was inaugurated by Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology. It begins operations with a team of 35 engineers specializing in artificial intelligence, with plans to scale to more than 100 specialists. The facility operates as part of Valeo's global AI network, which includes more than 200 AI experts and a dedicated AI research center.

The center's mandate is to fast-track the adoption of AI tools across Valeo's global operations and drive the development of next-generation software solutions for the automotive industry. Valeo's existing R&D center in Cairo has grown into one of the largest software development centers in Egypt, serving all of Valeo's business groups.

Egypt has been actively positioning itself as a technology destination, with its large pool of engineering talent, competitive costs, and government support through initiatives like Smart Village and the ICT Ministry's digital transformation programs. The Valeo announcement follows other recent investments in Egypt's tech ecosystem, including Egyptian edtech iSchool's acquisition of Rubikal to build AI infrastructure and the growth of local cybersecurity startups.

For the Egyptian tech workforce, this represents another validation of the local talent pool at a global scale. Valeo's investment signals that multinational companies see Egypt not just as an outsourcing destination but as a center for genuine AI innovation and product development.
